What is The Great Kindness Challenge?

The Great Kindness Challenge is one week devoted to creating a culture of compassion, acceptance, unity, and respect. Students will be performing as many acts of kindness as possible on campus. Using the school-provided checklist, students accept the challenge and show the world that KINDNESS MATTERS!

Support the Great Kindness Challenge by dressing up for these special themed Spirit Days:

Monday, Jan. 27 -Superhero Day (Dress-up like anyone who is a hero to you- a sports player, career hero, or superhero)
Wednesday, Jan. 29 - Dream of Kindness- Pajama Day!
Friday, Jan. 31 - Wear RED or Torrey Hills Hawks Spirit Wear.

Monarch School

As part of our Great Kindness Challenge week, Torrey Hills PTA has pledged to support Monarch School, a San Diego school committed to educate and help students impacted by homelessness. During the 2022–2023 school year, about 18,500 students in San Diego County experienced homelessness, which is about 4.5% of all K-12 students in the county! Monarch School is dedicated to helping homeless students break the cycle of poverty through education.

Monarch School has once again requested we provide hygiene Supplies for their elementary age students. Monarch only hands out full-size items because students only receive items once per month and usually share with their families.

Hygiene Supply Drive & Kindness Notes

This year, students will have the opportunity to make kindness notes and will have the opportunity to assemble hygiene kits for students at the Monarch School for homeless kids right here in San Diego. To show our kindness to our community, we want to ask you to consider building your own hygiene kit at home for students at the Monarch School for kids impacted by homelessness right here in San Diego.

The following new items are most needed for kits:

Kids Toothpaste
3-In-One Body Wash
Face Wash
Deodorant
Chapstick
Curly Hair Products
Body Lotion
Hair Gel
Hand Sanitizer

Please include a student-made kindness note for Monarch School students on the blank side of the provided notecard or a folded piece of plain paper.

The PTA will provide a notecard to use for your kindness note which will be sent home Wednesday, January 22nd. This year, reusable bags will be donated to Monarch School, so plastic bags will not be provided. (Please note, you may find great deals on products at dollar stores and other clearance stores like Marshalls.)

Please have kids drop off items in front of the school any day January 27-31. The office will also be a drop-off point. The Torrey Hills PTA will deliver all of the donations to Monarch School!

What Should I NOT write on a Kindness Card? Please do NOT write:

Anything negative
- For example, “Your situation is bad.”
Anything insulting
- For example, “I hope this helps you get clean.”
Anything that offers sympathy for their situation
- For example, “I’m sorry that you are homeless.”
