The Torrey Hills Read-a-Thon

What is the Read-a-Thon?

The Read-a-Thon is a week-long, school-wide program that encourages children to read more! It is the ONLY PTA fundraiser, and 100% of the proceeds will stay at Torrey Hills. Funds raised support students through mini-grants for teachers, events and supplies.

​Please help us reach our goal of $45,000. This year when we reach our ALL SCHOOL GOAl, we will recieve a Laser Ligth show for the entire school. 
​We ask that each student raise $100, but any donation is appreciated. We want every student to participate!

So what counts as reading? Any time your child spends reading, during or outside of school time, throughout the week of Sept. 20 – Sept. 27. This includes individual reading time and when someone reads aloud. 

What do you need to do to participate?

  • Set up your donation page!   Click here to set up your account.
  • Raise donations! Invite your family and friends to contribute money for your child’s participation, commitment to read and meet their overall goals! We ask that each student raise at least $100. Please share your child’s donation page with family and friends via email and/or social media!
  • Ask for corporate match! Many companies will match your donation at no cost to you! Ask your employer or click here to check if your company has a matching gift programs. Your donation is tax deductible!   • Begin reading! ​Encourage your child to read every day at home and record their time on their reading logs. Students will be reporting their minutes read each day at school. 
  • Join in the fun! The week will be filled with dress up days, mystery readers, parties, prizes, and other activities.

Prizes

Not only will your child have fun reading, but they can earn prizes too! Prizes will be awarded for reading, money earned, and participation.

Individual Student Prizes
  •        Sign up on Pledgestar – Bookmark and a raffle ticket
  •        Send out 5 emails via Pledgestar - Mini 3D Puzzle Eraser
  •        Raise $50 – Torrey Hills Sun Glasses
  •        Raise $100 – Torrey Hills Read-a-Thon T-Shirt
  •        Raise $200 – Torrey Hills Puzzle Cube Key Chain
  •        Raise $300 – Students will earn the opportunity for Morning Announcements
  •        Raise $500-  Families will be entered into special prize drawings for giveaways and gift         cards
  •        Raise $1,000- PTA Event Tickets (up to 6 people)
  •        School Goal $45,000 - ALL School Laser Light Show
Students can earn raffle tickets from their teachers! Mrs. Domingo will pick winners every day. Raffle winners get to choose from a variety of fun prizes that will be displayed in the office throughout the week.

Family Prizes (total amounts raised per family)
  • Raise $500: Families are entered into a special prize drawing for exclusive Torrey Hills merchandise, giveaways and gift cards from local businesses.
  • Raise $1,000: Families are entered into a drawing for a reserved parking spot!
​Classroom Prizes

  • Classes that reach 100% participation: Popsicle Party and $50 grant
  • Classes that reach their reading goal: Movie party
  • Classes that reach their fundraising goal: Extra Recess
  • School reaches goal of $45,000: Vote for Mrs. Domingo and select Teachers to be slimed, hit by water balloons, or get a pie in the face?

Dress Up Days

​Join in the fun by dressing up to celebrate the week of Read-a-Thon.
  • ​Monday, Sept. 23 – Wild about Reading!
    • Wear mismatched clothes, wild hair - be creative!
  •  Wednesday, Sept. 25– Book Character or Teacher Day
    • Dress up as a favorite book character or teacher
  • Friday, Sept. 27 – Red (Read) Out
    • Wear Red to show your Torrey Hills Spirit for the Read- a - thon
